WHAT IS AN UNHEALTHY ENVIRONMENT?

  • Symptoms of an unhealthy environment
  • Effects of an unhealthy environment on individuals and their ability to work
  • Physiological symptoms related to stress

WORKING WITH DIFFICULT PEOPLE

  • Understanding the difference between master and performer
  • Clarifying the issue that is the problem
  • Keeping the issue separate from the person
  • Ways to stay centered when there is chaos

PERSONAL CHOICES – WHERE THE POWER LIES

  • Setting boundaries
  • Clarifying roles and information
  • Recognizing that power is in gaining perspective – not losing control
  • Who has the problem?

WHAT TO DO WHEN WE’VE DONE EVERYTHING AND IT’S STILL NOT WORKING

  • Purpose of third-party intervention
  • The roles of negotiation, mediation, and arbitration
  • The organization as a resource

THE FINAL STEP

  • Development of a personal plan geared towards creating/maintaining a healthy work environment
